I would love to share this book with my grandchildren. I care for 2 of them 4 days a week and have to keep my emotions under control. If they see me get upset over something they could mimic how I react.

My grandkids would enjoy this book about feelings. The illustrations are colorful and highlight big emotions. It shows you are in charge of your response to what’s going on around you. In other words your attitude is a choice.

My niece is a grade-school teacher in a school which is underfunded and always needs support with extra books for classrooms. This would be a big help–she is so appreciative of everything which comes in for her kids.

This reminds me of a long-ago conversation with my best friend’s young daughter, who was furious because her little sister constantly pestered her, “making her so mad”! We talked about taking control of her own emotions, not letting her sister drive her feelings (because the sister *was* a maddening kid, unlikely to stop that behavior anytime soon, tbh) and instead to choose how to feel, the concept of not letting her sister be her boss by “making her mad”…I would have loved to have had this book!

I could have used this book today, when I lost my temper after another adult baited me, and I said something intemperate. I know better and should have done better.

Right now I am taking care of our dog 24 hours a day following an unexpected surgery. Every time I feel frustrated by my inability to do anything else–or anything on my own–I consider how grateful I would have been on the day of his surgery to foresee this “problem”. Having a change in perspective removes my temporary frustration and renews my feelings of thankfulness and love for this little guy.

I am thinking of my niece, the grade school teacher. Imagine if the students of her class learned, as a group, to control their emotions. How powerful they could be when they all harnessed their optimism! When they took their anxious energy and redirected it in a positive way before a test, as in the studies that have shown that students do better when they view their anxiety as excitement? What if, as a group, they valued optimism and positivity and encouragement? They might shut down bullies and mean kids by not valuing that kind of energy, not giving it attention.

I would like to win this contest because I am putting together a box to send to my niece to supplement her classroom supplies. As the daughter of a grade-school teacher I know very well how often teachers spend their own money on items for “their kids” at school and I am trying to help out this new teacher who longs to give her underprivileged students some of the things they do not have at home.

I’d like to win this because I think the book would be so useful for kids and adults. Being aware of your emotion and not taking everything personally can make handling stressful situations a bit easier. How to handle emotions is a life skill every one should learn, but doesn’t .

This is such a generous giveaway! It would make a big difference to kids who don’t often get a big gift in their everyday lives from strangers–the kids in my niece’s class. That’s why I’d like to win, to remind them that they are worth a stranger doing nice things for them, out of the blue.
