    Second Chances: Moonlight Mile Ranch

    Written by Mel Sobolewski

    Ages: 8-12 | 191 Pages

Publisher: All Things That Matter Press (2023) | ISBN-13: 9798987129692

What to Expect: Friendship, horses, second chances, and animal rescue.

Second Chances, the first book in the Moonlight Mile Ranch series, is a touching story about the bonds between humans and animals and the healing power that such bonds hold for both species.

Sagebrush Farm is supposed to be a haven for horses, but when a wildfire in Southern California rages out of control, the farm is destroyed, and the horses are left homeless. Hickory and Boomer, the owners’ beloved horses, enter an animal shelter and are put up for sale. However, they get their second chance when they meet Mel and Lennon, a mother-and-daughter team setting up a new ranch of their own. United in a common goal, Mel and Lennon team up with the horses’ former owners, Slick and June, to ensure that Hickory and Boomer, along with many other animals, have a home to find their second chance.

Exploring topics like natural disasters, animal instincts, and family ties, this is a story that encourages readers to think about their responsibilities and ties to others, both human and animal. Based on the author’s own ranching experiences, the characters are realistic, and throughout the story, they model empathy, integrity, and friendship for readers. The story is also chock-full of rich detail about what it takes to rescue and rehabilitate animals, providing inspiration and information.

Second Chances: Moonlight Mile Ranch is a lovely animal story perfect for shared reading and deep discussion.
