    The Whale and the Star

Written and Illustrated by Lexi DeSollar

    Ages 4-8 | 38 Pages

    Publisher: Palmetto Publishing | ISBN-13: 979-8885903745

What to Expect: Rhyming text, achieving dreams, perseverance, and imagination.

Have you ever wanted something so badly or dreamed a dream so big that you wondered how it could ever come true?

“At nighttime the ocean is quiet and deep,
but one little whale couldn’t quite get to sleep…”

In The Whale and the Star, readers are introduced to a young whale who dreams of touching the stars if only she could reach them. Thus begins her journey to find purpose and jump high enough to touch the stars. After years of practicing, will her dream come true?

Author Lexi DeSollar has crafted a lovely tale about finding your passion and having the determination and drive to follow your dreams. Young readers will delight in the skillfully crafted rhymes in which the story is told, while older readers will enjoy the overall message delivered by the whale’s journey through this whimsical story. The whale is eventually able to jump to the stars, where she meets and brings back a friend, demonstrating to readers that practice and perseverance can pay off. The delicate watercolor illustrations that convey the verse enhance this flowing and sweet tale.

The Whale and the Star will delight readers of all ages, especially those with an appreciation of the ocean, the night sky, and stargazing.
