Winston the Titan Terrier: The Cosmic Bone (Adventure Book 1)

Written by Mia van Dongen and Colin van Dongen

    Illustrated by Colin van Dongen

    Ages: 5+ | 32 Pages

    Publisher: Winston Books (2024) | ISBN: 9781738448708

What to Expect: Pets, adventure, imagination, friendship, perseverance

First imagined by the author’s five-year-old daughter, this fun and quirky adventure features quests, magical objects, and a cast of delightfully doggy characters.

Winston is no ordinary terrier. With his quick wits, bravery, and backpack full of helpful gadgets, Winston is the kind of terrier who can take on any adventure. When his Cosmic Bone is stolen, Winston sets off on a quest to find it, which eventually leads him to a secret laboratory hidden beneath Teddy’s Bone Shop. There, Winston finds his missing Cosmic Bone but uncovers a new mystery: Teddy’s dad is missing, and there is a hidden, ancient underground world full of mysteries and treasures waiting to be explored. However, Smokestrike—the ninja cat who stole Winston’s Cosmic Bone in the first place—is creeping unseen behind him. Will Winston be able to spot him in time to prevent the theft of the ancient treasures and thwart his devious plans?

Winston is a cheerful, resourceful, warm-hearted protagonist, willing to persevere with any problem until he finds a solution. As readers follow his adventures, they will learn that any challenge can be overcome with the right tools, friends, and willingness to keep trying. The story is illustrated with vividly detailed digital artwork that invites readers to immerse themselves in it and search for clues alongside Winston. “Spy Club” prompts throughout the story also encourage readers to pause and reflect, think critically, and become immersed in the adventure through search-and-find activities, problem-solving questions, and more.

Winston Titan Terrier is a delightful interactive adventure imagined by a kid, for kids.

    About the Author/Creative Director

Mia van Dongen is a spirited and imaginative young storyteller who embarked on her literary journey at age five when she inspired her father to create the beloved book series, “Winston the Titan Terrier.” Mia’s deep love for adventure and her cherished furry companion, Winston, became the heart of this enchanting tale, which not only drew her away from digital distractions but also ignited her passion for storytelling and books.

From the very beginning, Mia’s creativity and boundless energy blossomed as she delved into crafting tales with her father, Colin. Together, they spun magical narratives featuring Winston, a terrier with extraordinary abilities granted by a heroic celestial dog from distant galaxies. The series revolves around Winston’s thrilling escapades, fueled by a mystical bone gifted to him by an intergalactic furry superhero. Her collaborative efforts with her father breathe life into their whimsical adventures, capturing the imagination of readers, young and old. Through their creative partnership, Mia discovered the joy of storytelling and the power of imagination.

    About the Author-Illustrator

Colin van Dongen’s life has been a dynamic journey of creative exploration. Over the past 25 years, he has built a diverse career spanning oceanography, videography, motion graphics, 3D modeling, and animation, R&D, design, advertising, and marketing. Yet, it was the transformative experience of fatherhood that deepened his perspective, steering his creative pursuits in a new and meaningful direction.

Driven by a desire to connect more deeply with his daughter and step away from digital devices, Colin found inspiration in their shared love for storytelling about their furry friend, Winston. Together, Colin and his daughter Mia co-authored the ‘Winston The Titan Terrier’ series when she was just five years old. Witnessing Mia’s imagination flourish as they crafted this enchanting world, Colin realized the profound impact of unplugging from digital distractions—a choice that has positively influenced Mia’s academic journey and enriched her confidence at school, yielding remarkable results.
