    By Carole P. Roman

    Paperback: 32 pages

    Age Range: 3-7

    Publisher: CreateSpace (September 12, 2013)

What to expect: Norway, Places, Language, Culture

Award-winning author Carole P. Roman delivers her best addition to the “An Introduction to Learning About Other Cultures” series, so far, with fun facts and an action-packed look into the many pleasures of Norway.

The attention of young readers is grasped from the very first page of information: “…for parts of the year, the sun never sets and shines all day and night.” This is an intriguing concept for kids to ponder and therefore a smart starting point. Norway gets ever more alluring when the discovery of staying in a hotel made of snow and ice is made—even the pieces of furniture inside the hotel are made from snow and ice. The excitement continues with all of the fun winter sports and sightseeing you might partake in during your stay; such as skiing, dogsledding, and dressing up for Norway’s independence day (Syttemd Mai). Snippets of the Norwegian language are included throughout so that children can be introduced to some new words (correct pronunciation can be found in the appendix) and immerse themselves in the complete learning experience that Roman adeptly provides.

From Norwegian names, food to eat and places to visit, two adorably illustrated Nordic children guide the readers through Roman’s well-rounded experience that could lead to some quality imaginative play, or help with an elementary school assignment, or prep for a European vacation.
