    The Weirdots

Written by Steffanie Najera and C.M. Harris

    Illustrated by Brenda Figueroa

    Ages: 4-6 | 32 Pages

Publisher:  Purple Diamond Press, Inc. (2025) | ISBN: 978163918967-0

What to Expect: Friendship, diversity, individuality, creativity, community

The Weirdots is a colorful, joyful picture book celebrating diversity, creativity, and community.

The Weirdots are a weird and wacky bunch – each unique and special in their own way! Join Juice, a happy orange Dot, as he goes on a journey to meet lots of other different dots. He’ll meet Aqua, an inquisitive dot, grumpy Gween, thoughtful Purpaul, and fun-loving Ewlo, among others. Some dots are building, some are painting, some are playing music, and others are having fun at the fair. Some need a friend to cheer them up, while others need a friend to share their discoveries with. No matter what they are doing and what they are like, however, they all find ways to work and play together, forming strong emotional connections!

Each dot in the story is different, and the story emphasizes their unique talents, interests, and personalities. At the heart of the story is the way these different characters come together to share time, activities, and emotions, illustrating to readers that the strongest communities are made up of diverse individuals. This message is reinforced by vibrant artwork in bright, pastel colors bursting with fun and happiness. The simple text uses repetition, exploratory questions, and catchy rhyme and rhythm to engage beginner readers and build literacy skills.

This playful picture book is a great introduction to the concepts of diversity and community.
