    Winslow the Wizard: Book Cover

    Winslow the Wizard

Written and illustrated by Jessica and Lucy Egan

    Ages: 4-6 | 42 Pages

    Publisher: BookBaby (2026) | ISBN: 979-8-31783-808-9

What to Expect: Learning, positive thinking, trying new things, independence, teamwork.

In this delightful motivational picture book, mother-and-daughter team Jessica and Lucy explore ideas about learning through experience, figuring things out independently, and getting support from friends.

Winslow the Wizard is used to being able to do everything perfectly with magic, but today, he wants to try something new—he wants to see what he can accomplish without the help of magic. He starts the morning off by getting dressed, brushing his teeth, and making his breakfast, all without the help of magic. Not everything goes perfectly, but Winslow has a lot of fun learning how to do things himself. Next, it’s time to try out helping others without magic. Winslow helps his friends paint, bake, and even deliver letters, all without magic—but he doesn’t need the help of magic when he has his friends to help him! By the end of the day, Winslow is exhausted—but very proud of his accomplishments!

Winslow is curious, good-humored, and willing to forgo easy solutions, and his willingness to laugh at himself models playful and exploratory learning for readers. Centered around a single day in Winslow’s life, the plot provides an easy structure for readers to follow, with text and characterization that rely on alliteration for easy memorization. Importantly, the story shows readers that choosing to do things the hard way can be fun as well as instructive—a crucial message in our AI-focused, convenience-centered society.

Funny, approachable, and encouraging, Winslow the Wizard is perfect for fans of everyday magic and gentle humor.

    About the Creators

Jessica and Lucy Egan are a mother/daughter duo from the San Francisco Bay Area. Jessica’s career started in the legal profession, and then she turned to nonprofit fundraising and staying home to raise her children. As her children grew up, Jessica wanted to channel their imagination and creativity into children’s stories. During the COVID lockdown, Lucy and Jessica came up with Winslow and his friends. As she entered high school, Lucy became an avid writer, and one day the timing was right for her and her mom to embark on the Winslow Series together. Jessica and Lucy taught themselves how to draw so that they could create Winslow’s entire world together, which was a big challenge and a lot of fun.
