    Charlie the Caterpillar: Book Cover

    Charlie the Caterpillar

Written and Illustrated by Kat Brookes (with some AI-generated graphics)

    Ages: 2-5 | 26 Pages

Publisher: Heart So True Press (2025) | ISBN: 9781737260455

What to Expect: Rhymes, counting, animals, repetition.

Charlie is a caterpillar who loves using math.  One day, while out for a walk, Charlie is provided the opportunity to use his counting skills while observing nature around him. As he wriggles along, Charlie notices playful squirrels, busy bees, and resting birds. With each discovery, he counts aloud, delighting in the patterns and numbers he finds in his world. Creatures large and small, Charlie counts them all!

Author Kat Brookes has created a short, endearing story that appeals to the youngest readers.  Her illustrations help reinforce the relationship between numbers and quantities and also encourage early numeracy skills. In addition to reinforcing mathematical skills, Charlie the Caterpillar provides young readers with an enjoyable reading experience that invites playful interaction with numbers and animals. Adults will find that the rhythmic text and vivid artwork naturally lend to a lighthearted and lively read-aloud, resulting in a storytime that is both fun and beneficial for literacy development.

Charlie the Caterpillar is a worthwhile addition to a young reader’s library.
