    June's Big Wave: Book Cover

    June’s Big Wave

    Written by Emily Gatto

    Illustrated by Fernling Creative

    Ages: 4-6 | 56 Pages

    Publisher: FlutterBy Press (2025) | ISBN: 978-1968996000

What to Expect: Worries, mental health strategies, beach fun.

In this engaging and interactive story, readers will join June on a swim in the sea to learn how to manage their own anxiety.

June loves going to the beach, where she can swim in the sea, build sandcastles, and have lots of fun with her family. However, like all of us, sometimes her worries get the better of her and crash over her like a huge, scary wave, stopping her from having fun. Luckily, June knows just how to deal with those worries—and she’s going to teach you all of her best tricks! From deep belly breathing and body scans to some serious detective work, with June’s help, you can learn how to put worries back into their place, so you can keep having fun, just like June.

June is a cheerful and confident protagonist, and readers will love how she talks directly to them, even inviting them to visit her anytime they need some help with their worries. With this textual positioning, the book creates the feel of visiting a friend for a conversation, helping readers feel they are not alone when anxiety strikes. Softly pastel artwork lends each page a soothing, calm atmosphere that pairs well with the practical, interactive advice that June offers. This advice is especially helpful as it comes directly from a licensed clinical social worker and is imbued with the mental health expertise of the Lincoln Center.

No matter what their worries might be, readers are in good hands when they visit June at the beach!
