    Lucas: Book Cover

    Lucas

    Written by Alison Bellringer

    Ages: 10+ | 70 Pages

Publisher: Austin Macauley Publishers (2024) | ISBN: 978-1035873722

What to Expect: Friendship, family, responsibility, growing up.

After his parents die, Lucas is taken in by the loving family of one of his best friends. However, after overhearing them worrying one night about the strain of having to feed an extra mouth, Lucas decides to run away. He wanders from village to village, exchanging his help with household chores for food and shelter, until he stumbles on the home of Ruby and Seth.

The couple are grief-stricken, having just lost their daughter, who has run away to be married. They take Lucas in, and soon he is like a son to them, even taking over the family business after Seth dies. Then, one day, a little girl appears on their doorstep, frightened and badly malnourished. After years of estrangement, these fragmented families are finally coming whole again…

Sequel to the story Whisper, Lucas takes us back in time to tell the story of the orphaned little boy who will become a vital part of a new, happy family. Lucas is a strong, resilient, and kindhearted main character, demonstrating for readers that hardship can be the foundation for a life lived well.

With its emphasis on learning from experience and on building trusting, loving relationships, this multigenerational saga carries the message that even the most difficult challenges can be overcome by continually choosing to do the right thing. While unexpected twists and turns keep the plot exciting, the story is filled with details of everyday life, helping the characters and events feel more real. For readers who enjoy historical fiction and coming of age stories, Lucas is sure to be a winner.

    About the Author

Alison Bellringer has been writing short stories to share with friends and family for many years and always enjoys exploring her creativity when putting pen to paper, so she is excited to have the opportunity to share her love of writing with others.

Alison loves spending time with her pet dog, a Labrador x Huntaway called Smoky, teaching her tricks and taking her for walks. She lives in a small town in New Zealand near many beautiful parks and beaches.

Alison has been playing trombone since about 2010, euphonium from mid-2019, and always likes getting together with a few friends to ‘make a joyful noise’ sharing music. She also enjoys a bit of freelance photography when she gets the chance, especially if it involves taking pictures of sunsets.

One of her books, The Bronson Escapades, is a Silver Recipient of the Mom’s Choice Awards® honorary seal of excellence, and The Wolf Cub is a 2nd Place winner of the Royal Dragonfly Book Award Competition of 2024 in both the ‘Education’ and ‘Coffee Table & Gift Books’ categories, in addition to obtaining Honorary Mention in several others: Best Cover Design, Children’s Chapter Books, Middle Grade Fiction, and Animals/Pets (a complete list of results can be found on the Story Monsters Book Awards website). Alison hugely appreciates having received this outstanding recognition, as well as all the other encouraging comments regarding her earlier works.
